Academic Research in its true form
It’s all fun and games until someone loses their mind.
After gaining substantial research experience from various sources (IIT Jammu, Vecmocon, DTU), I had a revelation. My long-held belief that research was a dull and tedious activity? Completely wrong. Big time.
I could explain what I did in the most intimidating jargon, enough to make even Dr. Brown sweat. But let’s keep it simple. I read a bunch of published papers, tried to understand what they were doing and how, failed miserably, asked people around me, tried again, partly understood, read more papers until things started making sense, attempted something on my own, failed spectacularly, contemplated slitting my wrist (but failed at that too), took a nap, dreamt of a solution, woke up with a spark, refined my approach, got better results, felt motivated, improved again, finally succeeded—then partied and documented it all.
At the end of it, one thing was clear: I felt fulfilled. If you’re an adrenaline junkie like me, you know exactly what I’m talking about. By the time this phase ends, you’re not just more knowledgeable, you’re wise and skinny.
And that’s why everyone should give research a shot. Who knows? You might just find yourself staring at the abyss of failure, considering a dramatic exit, only to realize you can’t even get that right.
